Berlin/Zug. With perfect timing on the tenth anniversary since being founded, the Pro-Rail Alliance is celebrating its 100th supporting member: the Swiss company Wascosa. Based in Zug, the family-run company lets and administers freight wagons for rail freight transport. From today, Wascosa will also be part of the Pro-Rail Alliance’s commercial supporting base. “We are very pleased that our alliance is thriving,” said the CEO of Bombardier Germany and spokesman for the supporting members, Klaus Baur. “European rail freight transport will soon be a growing market again, and in the fight for fairer competitive conditions, the Pro-Rail Alliance is now a political force to be reckoned with.”

In Zug in Switzerland, people are putting their faith in the Pro-Rail Alliance. “Our industry is facing some big challenges when it comes to efficiency and competition,” said Wascosa’s managing partner Philipp Müller on Thursday in Zug. “In view of the intense competitive pressure from the roads and the plethora of regulations that make European rail freight transport a highly complex business, it has never been more important to form a strong political network and speak in unison on European issues. This is where the Pro-Rail Alliance comes into its own as a first-class platform.”

The main celebration to mark the pro-Rail Alliance’s tenth anniversary will take place on June 14 in central Berlin, exactly 10 years to the day that the alliance was founded. The Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer (CSU) and 150 other guests from right across the railway sector will be attending.

Allianz pro Schiene is the German alliance for the promotion of environmentally friendly and safe rail transport. It unites 17 non-profit organisations: the environmental organisations BUND, NABU, Deutsche Umwelthilfe and NaturFreunde Deutschlands; the consumer groups Pro Bahn, DBV and VCD; the automobile clubs ACE and ACV; the three rail unions TRANSNET, GDBA and GDL as well as the rail organisations BDEF, BF Bahnen, FEANDC, VBB and VDEI. Its member associations represent more than 2 million individual members. Allianz pro Schiene is supported by 100 companies operating in the rail sector.
