Managing executive director since 2001, with the sole power to represent the Pro-Rail Alliance (Allianz pro Schiene). A full-blooded rail lobbyist, Dirk Flege has previously held positions as managing director for several transport and environmental organizations, and has also been employed for the Germany Federal Parliament and the Bundes Post in Bonn. He holds two university degrees and is a qualified newspaper journalist.

Holds a PhD in history (thesis: Non-state railway construction in Pommern and Westphalia 1880-1914, awarded magna cum laude). He has been a railway fan since his childhood and knows almost every kilometer of rail track in Germany from personal experience. A brilliant analyst with an enormous wealth of transport-policies arguments.

Born in Tirol, speaks Italian fluently. Holds a PhD in philosophy, which was supervised by Professor Habermas, with Habermas as the subject of the doctoral thesis (magna cum laude). She is a trained newspaper journalist and worked for five years for the Frankfurter Rundschau, including two years as department editor. Has been working for the Pro-Rail Alliance since 2009.

He is an expert on the environmental impact of railway rolling stock and has a talent for languages (English, French, Russian, Spanish, Swedish). He has worked for the Pro-Rail Alliance since 2003, and was previously employed as a scientific researcher at the universities of Bremen and Oldenburg.
